On Sunday, Borussia Dortmund secured their place in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after thrashing VfL Wolfsburg 5-1 at Signal Iduna Park. The victory was all the more impressive given that Dortmund were missing several key players due to injury or suspension.

The game started off slowly for Dortmund, as they struggled to find their rhythm against a resilient Wolfsburg side. However, the German giants eventually found their feet and began to dominate possession. The first goal came early on when Jadon Sancho latched onto a through ball from Erling Haaland and slotted it past Wolfsburg goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

From there, Dortmund continued to press forward and create chances. Their best opportunity of the half came just before the break when Achraf Hakimi headed over the crossbar. Despite being behind, Wolfsburg remained resolute and looked likely to hold out until halftime.

However, the second half saw Dortmund take control and increase their lead. First, Jadon Sancho scored his second of the match after beating the Wolfsburg defence and slotting home. Then, the German champions doubled their advantage when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang netted from close range following a brilliant counterattack.

Just before the hour mark, Dortmund took the game into another dimension when Christian Pulisic fired home a stunning free-kick from distance. The final nail in the coffin came late on when Julian Brandt completed the scoring with a fine finish.

Overall, it was a comprehensive performance from Dortmund who will now face either AC Milan or Atalanta in the last eight of the Champions League. It was a deserved win for a team that has been struggling recently but showed their class in front of their own fans once again.
